On November 16 of this year, the world of Tibia was hit by quite a surprise. A pleasant one? For honest players it may well have been a reason to smile. Painful and severe? For many, very much so! Justified? As usual, opinions are divided. We are talking about yet another mass-delete of characters in the game’s history!

This is, of course, neither the first nor certainly the last mass removal of characters whose owners treat the game’s rules with a certain amount of detachment. Yet every time it stirs considerable controversy. Among players it is said that usually only low levels are deleted, most often those with a so-called “cave bot”, and that a stricter approach to rule-bending by high-level players would eliminate 80% of the regular user base. Deleting every single character supported by illegal software would result in an immediate depopulation of the game. And that, in turn, would not be good for the growth of Tibia from a global point of view. Is the reality as alarming as the rumors suggest? We don’t know. What we can say for certain, however, is that this time the punishment reached not only beginner characters, but also those with enormous experience on their accounts, often exceeding level 1500 and even 2000! Just look at the statistics of deleted characters over the last 24 hours and the highest level deleted on a given server. The record-holder is a level 2232 character from Secura, but that is not the only player whose 2000+ characters are no longer in the game.

These are exactly the messages that landed in the inboxes of the players who had to say goodbye to their characters. They clearly point to unauthorized software as the reason for the deletion. According to our own inquiries, the people who lost their characters had been using aids for looting, and for healing themselves or others. They had nothing to do with cave bots. This information comes directly from those affected. Unfortunately, we have no official statement on the matter from CipSoft.

So what exactly are the aforementioned aids that players still use so widely?

Auto-looting – automated collection of loot. In the old days, to pick up loot from a slain monster you had to open the body and manually move the items into your backpack. Over time the game’s options evolved, and it was enough to click a pile of monsters for the items inside to go straight into your backpack. With the summer 2024 update this option was made even easier by allowing you to collect loot from the 8 surrounding SQM with a single assigned hotkey. Even so, auto-looting was still in use, letting players pick up all the loot without pressing a single button.

Autohealing – nothing other than automated healing of your own character. For example, the moment a given spell’s cooldown ended, it would be triggered again, ensuring far better survivability at a given spawn.

Auto-UH – in other words, the automated use of the Ultimate Healing rune on a character in need of healing. This option made it possible to move the mouse cursor over a properly sorted party list and use the rune on a specific character.
As the game develops, the character of newly created areas, monster attacks and their numbers, and boss mechanics all become increasingly demanding. Because of this, players inclined to make things easier for themselves reach for tools of this kind. The benefit is improved comfort of play, a reduced risk of death, but also increased XP/h and loot profit. Unfortunately, for these benefits many players are still willing to stand in opposition to the rules and regulations set from above.

It is not hard to guess that players who never used illegal software are pleased with the situation. In the end, they feel that being honest was worth it. Nor is there any shortage of those who criticize the developers’ decision, suggesting that the penalties handed out for making the game easier are simply unfair given the unrealistic demands the Master Sorcerer vocation currently places on players. This refers, among other things, to the inability to use the Ultimate Healing rune on a target that is a player. During hunts at new areas designed for mass killing, that proves to be a huge challenge. Who is right? Judge for yourselves.
A spectacle of panic and other attractions!
Platforms tied to Tibia are in an uproar! On the forum, new posts praising or criticizing the current situation keep appearing. On Twitch, players can watch live the moments when characters belonging to streamers or their teammates get deleted.

Some streamers, like Strojny, who previously proudly published YouTube guides such as “How to set up auto-looting?”, are now worried by the situation and sharing their plan to save their savings and valuable items in case their characters are potentially deleted.

And it’s hard to be surprised, since there are also those who have already lost those valuable items. This refers to the famous case of the character Diegothais, which was deleted while a Winged Helmet was listed on the Market for 12,000,000,000 gold coins!
That item is worth close to 50,000 Polish zloty (roughly €11,500). And beyond its material value, it is one of the few remaining copies left in the game. If no one decides to buy it while the offer lasts, the helmet will most likely be lost. That would be an indirect loss for all collectors who might one day afford this item, and for players who feel enormous sentiment toward pixels.
Summary
November 16 will be a hard day for many. Over those memorable 24 hours, 3,319 characters were deleted. We suspect that actions like these won’t completely eliminate the use of external software to make the game easier, and that most of the players using it have stayed in the game. Does that mean the mass-delete was pointless? Nothing could be further from the truth. If, thanks to moves like this, some players decide that at such a high level the risk isn’t worth it and, watching from afar as their friends lose everything, resolve to start playing fair, then it will all have a real impact on improving the situation. It will certainly also raise the morale of players who have always approached the game honestly, at the cost of worse hunting stats or deaths.
